Sinusitis is the inflammation of the tissues in the sinus cavities of the face. Acute or chronic sinusitis responds exceptionally well to herbal medicine, support for the immune system and liver and key dietary changes.

Acute sinusitis is often preceded by a virus, which starts the inflammation process and if the immune system is weak, leads to a secondary bacteria infection, causing the sinusitis. Symptoms are pressure and pain depending on which sinuses are infected (behind the eyes, cheeks, nose and forehead), nasal congestion and excess mucus, headaches and sometimes fever.

Chronic sinusitis is a prolonged or recurring inflammation or infection. Symptoms are similar to acute sinusitis, although not usually as severe. Sufferers tend to have a stuffy nose, bad breath, postnasal drip and are prone to bouts of acute infectious sinusitis.

Chronic sinusitis sufferers tend to have complicating factors causing the constant irritation. This may be structural in nature, such as a deviated septum, enlarged adenoids, or polyps, or it may be caused by the immune system reacting to the fungus or bacteria that usually live harmoniously in the sinus passages. In locating the cause, we can manage symptoms and prevent further problems.
